ETL is an acronym for ‚E’xtract, ‚T’ransform and ‚L’oad. This includes all complex processes required to transport data (i.e. from an operational system) to a new structure and location (i.e. data warehouse). A lot of special tools can be used for this processes. These tools can handle huge amounts of data with high performance. The backdraw is that each process required a very detailed analysis and definition. These definitions need checking, programming and extensive testing. Minor changes in the process will require all steps (including extensive tests) to be repeated. This uses up a lot of resources and time. GeoDAT- ETL completely cuts out this. Intelligent interpretation of meta data, can automatically or manually generate all ETL processes without any programming effort and drastically reduced test effort. Thereby Data Warehouse architects and analysts are empowered to immediately check and modify every development step if required. Data quality and verification of data by staff user groups at any time during operations are possible. Since a Data Warehouse is permanently subject to change and needs to comply with new Business Intelligence applications and adapt to changes in operative source systems, changes to the meta data defintions are sufficient to keep the Data Warehouse structure up to date. |
